As yestofreedom‘s first two campaigns begin, it is worth mentioning that the future success of this initiative entirely depends on mass participation. Your help is therefore primordial.
Passion alone will have to kindle interest in taking action, as money, fame and such have yet to be on our side. Whether you are an otaku, a fervent advocate of free speech or anything else is irrelevant, as long as you are passionate about reaching the goals we aim to attain.
These goals are: on a long-term basis, the factual recognition of absolute freedom of expression as an unalienable right of every human, and, on a short-term basis, the end of the growing censorship of otherwise criminal behaviour depicted in fictional material.
We believe that through our actions, we will succeed in proving the existence of a sufficient public outcry on the current wave of bans to initiate changes in the attitude of politicians towards fiction, so as to get closer to a world where imagination would truly know no bounds.
Of course, by the very nature of the material we defend, we are destined to meet strong opposition. Controversial issues need however to be reflected upon significantly more thoroughly than any other. Consequently, the mere act of sparking off a sensible debate around these matters is likely to do good to our cause.

May these campaigns succeed. I’ve seen enough censorship to make me disgusted with the very idea of it.
How are the Japanese translations of the letters coming along?
Azarius is currently negotiating with a Japanese translator he knows. We’ll probably have to pay a fee though. You want to do it for free? =P
“May these campaigns succeed. I’ve seen enough censorship to make me disgusted with the very idea of it.”
Ditto
Agreed. I have already seen a lot of censorship that were absolutely retarded. Like the Japanese and European version of No more heroes. Right now, I am trying to look for useful information that could be of great assistance to our cause. I will let you guys know if I find anything.
Thank you for dedicating your time and effort to advocate for freedom of speech!
Human rights can only be infringed to within reasonable limits as can be demonstrably justified in a free society. This is clearly not the case with banning works of fiction. This is not like drunk driving, this is not a call to a riot; there is no indication of crime growth due to presense of such fictional work.
Even if these bans are passed, other than crippling the Eroge industry, they will be for the most part ignored by the consumers. 3D game design is becoming more and more accessible to individual modders. A single person can draw manga abroad and share it on the Internet, a great communications tool that trascends borders. This will become just like The Prohibition.
But regardless, I hope that these ridiculous and overreaching laws are thrown out, so that no one who means no harm to others has to resort to covert methods and fear criminalization.
I wish you success in your cause!
I’d just like to say I’m proud to see someone actually stand by there beliefs and not just talk like they gonna do something about it.May Yes to Freedom succeed in what they believe!
What do we put in the subject section of the email?
Whatever you think is relevant and representative, Lilium. For example, our default subject for the letter to the CEDAW is “Complaint and Request for Intervention Regarding Women’s Rights Charity Equality Now”.
I see, thank you for your help.
Good luck to everyone in these efforts. I believe that eventually, the arguments for censorship shall be proven as ridiculous as the ones offered against fictional, adult consensual sex in Grand Theft Auto. Without having the slightest inkling of the concepts, the most basic lifeforms on earth commit murder, and engage in sexual intercourse. When our media document these acts, it is for the sake of bringing us closer to the real act without committing it ourselves. I am positive that we as a race do both of these things equally as often as we did before electronic media was invented.
Thank you for starting the movement; surely truth and freedom will prevail.
